Week 2: Introduce FIRST and Snack Attack

10 minutes Start out with "The Name Game" to help us all remember names again

I'm Linda (clap)
Everyone: Hi Linda (clap)
around the circle

I'm Linda and I like books (shake body)
Hi, Linda. You like dogs! (shake body)
around the circle

3 or 4 times around -- name and a fact (like, dislike, favorite color, etc.)

10 minutes of background
What is JrFLL? What are we going to do together?
--> by meeting at the FRC Build Space, we can talk about JrFLL, FLL and FRC -- and the great robots and projects that each group works with while we look at some of those robots and the FLL table.

What does it mean to be a team? (listen to each other, work together, make decisions together -- if you're a sports team, what do you do?)

Decisions we'll make as a team:
  • Team name
  • Snack to make, sample research
  • A LEGO model of something about that snack
  • A display board showing what you learned about how the snack was made and kept safe to eat

Gracious professional: Helpful, kind, show respect to each other and to other teams when we work, play and share.

How long they'll stick with it... (10-15 minutes?)
Challenge introduction ("Brain storm" -- what does that mean???)

The SNACK ATTACK Jr.FLL Challenge is all about food. It’s about what your team can learn about your
favorite snacks. It’s about what your team can do to keep the food you eat fresh and safe.

(NOTE: If possible, find a snack that we "make" with 2+ ingredients...
muffins or cookies or bread?)

Brainstorm snacks (what does "Brainstorm" mean?)
  • What's your favorite snack?
  • What kinds of field trips could we do to learn more about snacks?

Pictures of snacks for kids -- good for next week to sort into likes and dislikes or graphs or things grown vs. made or...?

20 minutes
Open up the LEGO's -- see what's available. Put minifigs together.
NOTE: This was mostly just building and getting a feel for the LEGO's. Some decapitation of minifigs... mostly just a chance to see how the students worked together so we can start figuring out how many teams and who's on each team.

End of the day:
Best part about today's meeting
"DELTA'S" -- what we can change to make it better next time
